IPREM is privileged to work in the Metro Vancouver region that is located in the traditional territory of the Coast Salish (Hwlistum, q́ićəý̓(Katzie), q́ʷɑ:ńƛ̓əń (Kwantlen), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), máthxwi (Matsqui), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), qiqéyt (Qayqayt), se’mya’me (Semiahmoo), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), scəẃaθən məsteyəxʷ (Tsawwassen) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)) peoples.
The partnership encompasses the Metro Vancouver Regional District, which includes 2.7 million people, 21 municipalities, Electoral Area A and one Treaty First Nation.
Local government (municipalities and regional district) and scəẃaθən məsteyəxʷ (Tsawwassen) First Nation within the Metro Vancouver region are responsible for developing and implementing emergency management plans, including preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters as outlined in the BC Emergency Program Act or jointly through municipal bylaws and other agreements. The Metro Vancouver Regional District holds the responsibility for the same level of emergency management support to its one electoral area and its core services such as water.
